What is Basketball Legends?
Basketball Legends is a 2D arcade basketball game by MadPuffers, and the title screen of the version here reads Basketball Legends 2020. Big-headed cartoon basketball players play short timed games with physics-driven jumps, blocks and dunks, and every player carries one super move that can swing a close game.
The menu has a Tournament that runs from the Round of 16 to the final, a Quick match, a Random match, Training, and a 2 Players match for two people on one keyboard. The Tournament can be played on Normal or Hard. The HTML5 build is hosted on basketballlegends.org, so it loads inside the page.

How a match works
A match is 60 seconds of game clock. The clock stops while players celebrate a basket and while a Fast Break or Mega Dunk is running. A shot in the air at zero still counts if it goes in, and the game calls it a Buzzer Beater. A tie adds 15 seconds of overtime, again and again until someone leads.

A Mega Dunk scores no more than a normal basket, so when you are two behind with seconds left, only a three wins it outright.
Which player should you pick?
There are 20 teams with three players each. Players have no ratings, and all the ones you control share the same skill settings. The team changes the look. The slot you pick decides your super.

Your meter takes 18 seconds to fill. A computer opponent takes 48, 35 or 28 seconds, depending on its level, so yours comes back faster than its own.
Game modes
- Tournament: a 16-team knockout, 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2, on Normal or Hard. The computer gets stronger each round, and your bracket is saved so you can continue later.
- Quick and Random match: one game against the computer at a fixed level.
- Training: an empty court with no clock, for practising shots and moves.
- 2 Players: on one keyboard, either 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 with a computer teammate each, or both of you on one team against the computer.
Playing on a phone
Turn the phone sideways: held upright you get a rotate prompt instead of the game. We tested this on an emulated Pixel 7, where landscape showed left and right arrows plus buttons for jumping, shooting and the super, and Quick Match played normally. The 2 Players button does not appear on phones or tablets.
Tips
- Pump-fake, then go: with the ball, the block key becomes a pump fake. A defender who jumps at it is in the air while you walk past.
- Block instead of reaching: on defence, hold the block key between the shooter and the rim rather than spamming steals.
- Dash on the break: double-tapping a direction dashes, which is the quickest way to beat a defender back after a steal.
- Pick the super that suits you: Mega Dunk helps you score, Fast Break dashes across the court and takes the ball from anyone in its path, and Defence helps you stop the other side. Save the bar for the end of a close game.
